![]() Kick Starter Campaign Launched for Brew Salt; The Newest Beer & Cocktail Trend July 19, 2014: Saratoga Springs, NY - When Brew Salt launched its line of gourmet flavored sea salts for beer, coffee, cocktail and cooking earlier this year, it was done so only with investments from the four partners of the company. Now, with great initial success, they are primed to take their local enterprise national and their new Kickstarter campaign intends to do just that. The Brew Salt Kickstarter campaign is an effort to both spread the word about this new product and to raise the funds necessary for more efficient packaging, distribution and marketing. Brew Salt is looking to raise $5000 and will have 30 days to raise all of the funds or the project receives nothing. In exchange for backing Brew Salt, supporters will receive actual Brew Salt product and gifts. "We chose Kickstarter because of its ability to spread the word quickly and introduce Brew Salt to an international audience. Kickstarter backers will be updated on the status of the project and are made to feel a part of our team." said Robin Morgan, CMO of Brew Salt. "The Kickstarter campaign allows more people to become a part of our story and that helps us create a viable business" The Brew Salt brand was created when founding partner Robin Morgan was intrigued to watch her father-in-law sprinkle plain table salt into his beer. Traditionally, beer salting was used to improve the taste of less flavorful brews. With a background in marketing and nutrition, her instinct was to improve upon this "old-timer's" tradition. Brew Salt's four original flavors (habanero, chocolate, lime, and bacon) are created with light grey celtic sea salt and all natural seasonings and spices to compliment a variety of types of beers. From pilsners and ales to porters and stouts, the flavors heighten the experience of any beer. With a shake of Brew Salt into any beer or coffee, the flavors are enhanced; elevating the taste with just a shake, swirl, and gulp. Brew Salts are also an ideal ingredient for the rim of your margarita or bloody Mary. "We’re food and beverage obsessed and are thrilled with the positive feedback we’ve gotten not just from the hardcore enthusiasts but also from bar owners, brew masters and chefs." said Kerri Tanner, CEO and 'Salt Chef', "In fact, we’re now regularly hearing of creative uses for the product from cocktail concoctions to sweet and savory recipes." The business is new and engages people to put organic flavored beer salts in their drinks, or even desserts."– The Saratogian Click Here to Open the Article http://www.saratogian.com/20140313/brew-salt-brings-flavor-to-chosen-drinks by By Jennie Grey, The Saratogian BALLSTON SPA >> When Robin Morgan first saw her father-in-law salt his beer, her marketing background led her to think, “What if the beer was better, and what if the salt was better ...”, and that was the inception of today’s Brew Salt. The company creates flavored organic sea salt to enhance beer, cocktails or coffee. “We want to re-create and revitalize the trend,” said Morgan, the business’s founding partner and chief marketing officer. “It used to be a Coors Lite and a salt shaker. Now Brew Salt offers a better product and more fun. Our seasonings shouldn’t make drinks strongly salty — the flavor just gives you a little zing.” Consumers can shake in salt, toss a pinch or rim their glasses. Adding salt to drinks has several advantages, Morgan said. It reduces bitterness and removes carbonation. It also brings the foamy beer head to the top of the glass. “Then we decided why not flavors?” said founding partner and chief executive officer Kerri Tanner. “Why not play with the flavor?” The first four flavors Brew Salt launched are bacon, chocolate, habanero and lime, concocted in batches with a high-quality gray Celtic sea salt. Brew Salt blends fine powdered spices to create the salts, which are sold in $10, four-ounce jars. It should be noted there’s no real bacon in the bacon flavor; it’s actually vegan seasoning. The Brew Salt crew has dozens of ideas for seasoning drinks. The chocolate salt goes well with darker beers and even milkshakes. The salted lime is naturally for margaritas. India Pale Ales are enhanced by bacon, habanero or lime. “I’ll never have another Bud Lite without the lime salt,” Tanner said. Tanner is responsible for these culinary creations, hefting 55-pound bags of sea salt at Zest, a Personal Chef and Catering Company in Ballston Spa. Owners Carla and Eric Kuchar are renting their commercially certified kitchen space to the Brew Salt crew. “Carla understands the plight of a growing business,” Morgan said. Carla Kuchar said, “I understand because we’ve been there ourselves. All our local small businesses are here to support one another.” Tanner, who loves to cook, is the company’s creative salt chef. Morgan said Tanner is great in the kitchen, with the right palate for the job. Morgan’s husband, James, is Brew Salt’s chief financial officer; Tanner’s fiancé, Patrick McGowin, is the sales director and beer expert. “Patrick has dragged me along to many a beer tasting,” Tanner said. “He’s a beer connoisseur.”Morgan said, smiling, “He’s our beer snob.” The four have complementary skill sets and are a great team, she said. Tanner emphasizes that there’s no right or wrong way to flavor your drinks. The company encourages playfulness, as seen in its logo of a black bowler hat over a handlebar moustache. Brew Salt has a quirky sort of connoisseurship. With 15 years of marketing experience, Morgan has good instincts about where to showcase and sell the flavored salts. The company took a booth at the Saratoga Beer Summit, where their products were well-received. She was pleased that high-end craft beers seemed a good market. Brewers were supportive of the salt concept. “We had a great response, and it was really fun,” Tanner said. Her newest concoction is ginger apple pie salt, and other flavors are in the works. The demand being there, Morgan wants to move forward. Brew Salt has a strong organic growth socially, she said. Then besides marketing and selling via its website, Facebook page and Twitter feed, the Brew Salt team is planning to sell via local retailers and distributors. The company will also launch a Kickstarter campaign to gain financial support. A donor could win the honor of having a custom salt named after him or her.
